Chris's Touchdown Tuesday: Sept 20, 2016

- Chris Giannini

In another fantastic weekend of football it is the day to hand out cheers so lets get straight to it.

Thursday night my guy Tom Herman took his Houston Cougars into Cincinnati and beat up on the Bearcats.  After a hard fought back and forth game the Cougars made a big charge in the 4th quarter to get the game out of hand and come out on top.

Congrats and keep winning, Houston.  I’m counting on you to show up in November when you host Louisville.

Speaking of the Cardinals…
Did you see that ass kickin??? That was Florida St on the other side of the field.  That was the #2 team in the country they played and Bobby Petrino and Lamar Jackson just had their way with them.  Maybe we should change the name of Touchdown Tuesday to something just for the Cougars and the Cardinals because they find themselves on here every week!

How about we give a big touchdown to a man that has been on my hero list for a long time… Mark Dantonio is a top 3 coach in all of college football!  He takes his Michigan St Spartans in Notre Dame’s house and laid a beat down on the Irish.  Dantonio is one of those coaches that will always have his teams playing at a high level and competing in big time games.  Congrats to him and the Spartans.  Keep fighting on.

Now for a little home cookin.  I’ve lived my entire life in and around Memphis, TN.  It has its flaws but recently one thing that has brought this city together has been the Memphis Tigers and more importantly for a predominantly basketball school, its been Tiger football.  Now Memphis has been in the news the last few months for being in the running and seemed to be a major player for one of the schools to get into the Big 12 if they expand. A few weeks back the Big 12 leaked out a top 12 lists of schools that they were strongly considering, and to the surprise and slap in the face of Memphis they weren’t on the list.  Memphis not making a list of 12 schools when other schools like Rice, Tulane, Colorado St, and Air Force made it is a complete shame.  I brought all that up to say this.  Touchdown Memphis this week because all the schools that seemed to keep Memphis out of the conversation got their come-upin’s this weekend! Memphis smashes Kansas.  Ohio St destroys Oklahoma.  And Texas fell in laughable fashion to Cal.  That’s calls football karma ass-hats!

Now on to the Pros.  I want to give a big touchdown to a rookie who’s playing really well so far (don’t tell Gary I said this) Dak Prescott!  He got his first NFL win on the road against the Washington Redskins.  The first of many to come I’m sure so congrats to him and the Cowboys.

And how about Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans this weekend on the road in Detroit?  Mariota going 10 for 10 on the final drive to score the game winning touchdown and get his first win of the season.  This team won’t get a lot of national recognition this year, but they are a lot of fun to watch.  Any win the NFL is big and road wins are especially hard to come by so good job by you!

For another team who might not get a lot of praises on Tuesdays this year but they are getting one today… The San Diego Super Chargers! Once again this team is filled with injuries but they find a way to win.  And not just pulls out a late win; they brought Jacksonville into town and whipped their butts!  Philip Rivers played great and that Charger defense looked on top of the world.

Finally the last big Touchdown of the weekend I’m giving to MY Minnesota Vikings.  One of the top teams in the NFL and a divisional rival come into your new stadium with one of the best QBs in the world and that defense just brought him to his knees!  What an impressive performance by Mike Zimmer and the Vikings.  The wins won’t come easy for this team this year and they won’t be pretty.  But they just get it done.

Congrats to all the teams and players who got wins this weekend. As the season goes on some games will become more important than others so touchdowns become more important.
